Isn’t she beautiful
Today I am wondering if Oprah Winfrey has lost the plot. I have just been watching her show on aging and she is interviewing four women between the age of 50 and 75. Not one of them looks anywhere near her age and I found myself going sideways as I listened. Apparently there is no such thing as a grey haired lady in Los Angeles anymore and most of these women were very much into plastic surgery, although that didn’t come out for a while. They were all radiant.
I am left wondering if my Gran will become a someone that sits upon my altar and I yearn for her presence because she is a fantasy from a bygone era. I probably need not worry. The world of television is often make believe and not a true reflection of the majority of us but I do feel sick about how, what is considered to be womanly beauty, seems to be narrowing by the day.
Yesterdays show had a return of a young woman who had a gastric bypass since her last appearance. She is now stunning. Her dad had told her she would not be acceptable till she lost weight so she went and had the surgery and he was now beside her beaming and the crowd clapped and rejoiced in her new glow.
So I wanted to have my own little showing today
What do you see in this womans face?. I love her mystery. She feels sad and ancient and lived in by life. I know if she smiles that all the wrinkles will smooth out and I will enjoy the transformation. I love that distance that can only be felt in a grans face, the character is so animated. She demonstrates all the facets of being a women. There is no plastic to her being.
What about this beauty?

Look at her eyes. Eons of story and wisdom. Don’t you want to touch her. I love how soft old skin is. I love how it makes me take care. I love its frailness. I love how she holds the spirit of cheekiness and free spirit with eternity. She is a very old tree I want to nestle in to.
I love these old women

They don’t deny anything. They have been washed through and survived. They have not run. They have a grace that is the ultimate pinnacle of woman.
They are the gracious beauty of the real world.
