I took a good, long look at myself in a full-length mirror
And what I saw was not some soul sister poetess of the moment
But I saw just a woman
Just a woman feeling
Just a woman human
And what I felt was a spiritual revelation
And what I felt was a root revival of some love coming on
Coming on strong
And I knew then, looking in a full-length mirror
That many things were over
And some me of beauty was about to begin
I am always so deeply touched by Carolyn’s prose.
This piece reminds me of the queenly energy that African American woman embody so beautifully.
I remember walking the streets of Harlem in New York and seeing these extraordinarily beautiful women. The way they walked down the street actually in truth the way they ‘owned’ the street. Not to mention their ability to hold court.
Queen energy can come in many flavours. To give you an example of two extreme flavours - the benevolent generous queen or the ‘off with his head’ type of queen.
What kind of queen energy do you animate?
Is your mere presence a blessing to us all?
Do people flock to the sides of the street for a glimpse of you?
We can use our queen energy for our self-centred pleasure (having it our way) or we can use our queen energy as a generous empress of heart, again which one are you?
But getting back to Carolyn’s beautiful piece of prose.
Can you imagine getting rising out of your bath, and catching a glimpse of your view in the mirror and being awestruck by how profound you are?
Have you ever allowed another woman’s beauty to liberate your soul?
Can you feel that spiritual revivial happening within your being?
Women coming together as a collective of My Dangerous Beauty will reveal a much needed spiritual revival that will soothe many souls.
